Hip-hop artist Mc-Chita and arguably one of the best to ever done
it locally, ended his 3 year hiatus with the release of a brand new album titled
"NDINONZI CHITARISIRO" on the 24th of October.
This is Mc Chita's sixth album.
"Yes. I recently just dropped a new album. It's my first
release, 'officially' that is, since 2012 when I released 'The Ambassador's Son'.
" I took my time to put this album out because I felt that
the moment needed to be 'just right' and I am sure anyone listening to the album
will agree with me that it was well worth the wait", he said.
Having waited so long for an official album from the rapper,
his fans will be more than happy to know that 'Ndinonzi Chitarisiro' is only part
1 of a double disc album.
"It's a double CD, which I'm releasing in parts. Part 2
drops early next year.
" As you already know, Part 1 carries
17 songs. We are still wrapping up part 2 but it should probably carry the same
number of tracks when everything has been finalized ", said the hiphop artist.
As to why he decided to title his album, 'Ndinonzi Chitarisiro'
he said,
"It's really based on my name, 'Chitarisiro' which
means 'to look forward to'. So more than anything else, it's about what I am to
my parents, to Hip Hop, to my country as well as what I'm meant to be ".
With 'Ndini Chitarisiro' he has indeed given local hip-hop and
the nation at large something lot 'to look forward to'.
With strides made on the local market in recent years, from the
freeing up of the airwaves to the rise and recognition of the hip-hop genre among
other things, the emcee said he believed that it was quite an exciting to be an
artist and be doing music right now locally.
"I'm really excited about the scene, currently. I mean
now there are a lot more people pushing the movement. More like-minded rappers
as well. Before, there were very few of us out there. Now with the Calvins, Ti
Gonz', King Aktives and the likes out there, it's really helped broaden the
market.
"Before this new era, hip-hop was really just a thing
which 'masaladis' did. But now you find hip-hop all over the country", he said.
No doubt, local hip-hop has grown over the years and continues
to do so immensely, but so has the artist himself.
"Well I first got radio play in 2004. But I had been
rapping and freestyling long before that.
"It wasn't really until 2007 that things kicked off for
me after I had dropped my album *Heavy Chibhanzi*, that is when I started
making a name for myself. Then in 2011 I did a collaboration album with Jnr
Brown which went on to win a number of awards for me locally and was also well-received
by the fans.
"As for me, I'm
just your typical Zimbabwean trying guy to make it and leave his mark on the world
also", said Chita.
Being a contender himself to any Top 5 list of the greatest rappers
locally, past, present and future, we asked the artist to give us his own list of
those he felt deserved special mention.
" Naturally, I would hesitate to answer that because I
think the best is still to come. But for now we just have to look at the numbers.
So that's TehnTehn Diamond, Jnr Brown, Calvin, Xq and Takura. "Actually
scratch that. Me, me, myself, I and I 😂😂", he jockingly said.
Having traveled the world over and worked with a number of artists,
deejays and producers, the Harare-based hip-hop artist said that he rates his stint,
whilst recording, in Jamaica among the best and most memorable.
"I've worked with a lot of dancehall acts surprisingly.
From Chi Ching to Munga Honorable. Actually that was a dope session because we
recorded it in Shaggy's studio which is a top of the line studio. It was the first
time in my life that I had been in such a studio", he said.
And as to the best places he has toured thus far, Chita said
that Cuba ranks top of his list and that when the day comes when he has to hang
up the mic, he wouldn't mind spending the rest of his days there.
"Cuba is hands down the best place that I have toured, no
competition! It will always be Cuba. That's where I hope that one day I can
retire", he said.
