The third installment of the annual 'Mwana Anokosha' charity
benefit concert is ready to take center stage once again at the Harare Children's
Home on Saturday the 17th of December.
Mwana Anokosha is a charity event for the orphans who are
looked after at Harare Children's Home and is the brainchild of Rhyme Assassin
(Tichaona Monera) an emcee currently based in the United Kingdom.
The charity benefit concert which takes place every December
is this year running under the theme, 'Every Child Matters'.
Over the years the show has been graced by high profile
performances from the likes of Trevor Dongo & Goodchild. This year the show
will have high flying hip-hop group KBFMG & award winning female rapper, Blacperl
among it's line-up of stars.
The event has for the last couple of years been organized by
ZIM RAP CITIES an organization created by Tendayi 'Prometheus' Zonde (The
hip-hop driver) to give local emcees platforms for their music to be heard.
"2016 will be the third installment of Mwana Anokosha.
As in previous years there has been an overwhelming response from young artists
who would like to perform and entertain the children at the home.
"It's a platform for young artists to connect with some
of the disadvantaged youngsters in our society. The young artists help in raising
funds and even they themselves make donations in cash or in kind towards the
home", said Prometheus.
The event coordinator and former rapper himself said that more
than anything else, the annual event was meant to forster a strong sense of moral
responsibility amongst the next generation of music stars.
"The main aim of this event is to trigger a sense of moral
responsibility among the youth especially the young artists.
"Musicians need to play a positive role in society and the
young artists can nurture this sense of responsibility through this platform",
said the 'hiphop driver', as he is affectionately known.
As to how the public had so far responded to this unique initiative,
Prometheus had this to say,
"The public has always responded positively to the initiative.
More so when they realize that the engine driving this event are young people
who genuinely want to make a difference in their society".
The event does indeed make a difference and for the last couple
of years it has brought cheers to the kids at Harare Children's home and has become
a permanent feature on their festive season calendar.
"The real primary objective of this show has always
been to put a smile on disadvantaged child.
"Every year the hall is filled with laughter and
excitement. Young people literally making a difference in other young people's
lives", said Prometheus.
The festive season is regarded as a time for having fun but more
importantly a time for giving abundantly and what better way to do so than to
donate to those in need.
Prometheus agrees with this assertion but also pointed out that
their hope was to take the event to all the other cities and help bring smiles all
around and make sure that people did not on't forget their social responsibility.
"The show has always been held at Harare Children's
home once a year in December, however, in the future there is a vision to take
the show on the road to other charitable organizations.
"Our future plans are quite simple. To have this event
duplicated in other cities by young people across Zimbabwe. We want to have 'Mwana
Anokosha' in Mutare, Masvingo, Bulawayo, to mention a few", said Prometheus.
