» » » » Only Kings can speak 'Kinglish'; Jezreel

By Tawanda Ngena

Popular Zambian hiphop and afro pop artist, Suzyo 'Jezreel' Chabinga is set to deliver an early present for his fans this Christmas with the release of a 4 track debut album titled 'Kinglish' on December 20th.
According to the Lusaka born-and-bred musician, the album is his own way of touching people's hearts and minds through sharing his own life's experiences.
"Basically this album talks about life, the hustle, success and a little bit of love (because even hustlers need love too). Most of the inspiration comes from life's situations, so naturally my songs are about my past experiences and what happens in my community.
"I feel like my country needs motivational music right now because of the hardships we are going through and that is why I made this album", said Jezreel.
We sought out an explanation as to the title of the album itself from the hiphop/afro-pop artist and this is what he had to say,
"I love telling my friends that 'ordinary people' speak english but kings speak 'kinglish', everyone has a king inside them but the king in everyone can only come out after the hustle pays off".
The four tracks that make up the album include 'That's Why', 'Kulibe', 'Keneth Maduma' and the title track to the album itself, 'Kinglish'.
Jezreel gave us a breakdown of these tracks,

"The first track is titled 'That's why' and talks about how every thing around you changes  the moment you make it big, people who were your friends get jealous and try to soil your image by saying all sort of things about you, but regardless of what they say about you, enjoy your life and forget the haters.
"The second song is 'kulibe' (loosely translated, it means 'no comparison'), the song appreciates women, I am talking about that 'ride or die' woman that you can hustle with on your way to success.
"All that I am doing is appreciating all the women who love their men for who they are and not for what they have", said the rapper.
Chabinga also explained the track 'Kenneth Maduma', which is said to have already gone viral following its release as a single barely two weeks ago with tens of thousands in views and downloads.

"Kenneth Maduma', is the title of the third track on the CD and it talks about a legendary Zambian newscaster by that name and how his rise to the top is an inspiration to all of us. He  went from being a mere newscaster to being head of our national broadcaster ZNBC. "The hook to the song goes like (kwamene ni chokela ni do or die son them boys hustle hard from dusk till don, we move from rags to riches monga kenneth maduma)", said the 26 year old.

Jezreel describes the title track to the album (Kinglish) as being a feel good trap song,  a song that is sure to make everyone 'go gaga' when it drops,
"Kinglish is a language for hustlers, they don't complain no matter what they go through, they just move on to the next", he said.

According to Chabinga, he began his music career back in 2008 after drawing inspiration from hiphop icons like Tupac Shakur, DMX, Nas and The Diplomats, to mention but a few.
He is a songwriter in his own right as well and occasionally writes songs for some of his fellow musicians and plans are afoot for the setting up and eventual launch of his own music label which he chose to title 'Skwale' early next year
