» » » » » ......and the 'Gud Vibes' just keep on coming

By Tawanda Ngena

After the reports reaching our ears that South African music label, Gud Vibes had recently signed a Zimbabwean female rapper by the name Icy Murder, our curiosity (as did that of our readers) grew and we decided to track down the brains behind the Johannesburg based music entity and find out more about how the deal went down but more importantly...... get to know more about the label itself.

Urban Craft magazine caught up with the founder of music label, one Thuso Moiloa and he took time off his busy schedule to answer a few of our questions.

You recently signed a Zimbabwean rapper by the name Icy Murder, can you tell us how that deal came about?
One of the the previous partner heard her freestyle in 2013 and we decided to start working with her to see if anything fruitful could come out of the relationship.

Can you tell us some of the more notable industry names signed to your label?
King Chabz, Budah Bles, WorldPeace, MC Tsotso, Tebzah and Tape to mention a few.

Thus far,  how many artists are signed to your label?
As of right now we have 8 very talented artists signed to our label and our hope is to make Gud Vibes for many an artists in the years to come.

Is your label 'all-encompassing' or you have a bias towards one particular genre?
We do all cater for all music and we are not limited to any particular genre.

What are your goals as a label?
To run a world wide first class music label whose music caters, not only for Africa but the globe at large.

When and where was your label established?
It was established in 1999 but was re-registered in 2016 as a full blown record label

Who was the brains behind it?
That would be me of course, Thuso Moiloa

What do you think makes your label standout from the rest?
Our intensive media relationships and 20 years experience in the music industry,
with business affiliations continously maintained by fulfilling required responsibilities to investment partners and interests of our business through entertaining elements that will speak to our audience.

Who are some of the more notable musicians to have walked through your doors?
Blaklez, Jozi Chave, Mo G, William Lehong, Dj Ankletap, Mantsoe Pout, Enveigh, Torah, Reason, Lolo, Drencko, Bruno (Gumshev), Malik, Mo Klaasik, Proverb, Scoop, H2O, El Supreme.

What inspired you to start a music label?
Most of my friends were DJs and I loved music so I ended up being more involved in the running of things and that led to the establishment of the label. Brown Matsime was the main inspiration as he used to manage my music career.

How far have you gone in realising the goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this project (label)?
We established relationships with radio stations and record labels around the country, have our artists playlisted and performing around the country.

Can you list for us some of the hits that have come out of your studio?
King Chabz - Mosadi wa Lekgoa
Icy Murda feat. Tape - Happiness
Tebzah - Wa hopola
