This week we caught up with 18-year-old aspiring hiphop/dancehall artists, Ziggy for a brief chat and below are a few of his responses to the questions we asked.
What is your full name?
My full name is Fungai Lovemore Junior Ruwocha.
What's your stage name?
My stage name is Ziggy (starkid).
Where are you based?
Im based In Bulawayo Burnside.
How did you become involved in music?
It all started at school (2011) when i joined the school choir and two years later I recorded my first single, a track called 'Girl'.
Your inspiration?
Local artists like the legendary icon, Oliver Mtukudzi inspired me and international acts like Wizkid also had a great influence on me.
What is music to you?
Music is a job for me im all about chasing dreams and the money.I also own a record label which goes by the name, Unique Music Records and any upcoming artist who wants to work, im always open and free.
What have you been cooking up in the booth?
I dropped my Ep last month (Dreamz Ep) and the EP's title song (Dreamz) has been doing quite well for me.
Im now planning on dropping a 5-track album this Christmas, titled 'The Big 5'
Who are some of the producers/musicians that you have had the priviledge to work with thus far?
I have worked with the likes of Dj Mugomix ,Naiza and Kello Boy on the track called Mwari (gospel track)
I also worked with Fish Mc-Swag from Zimbo music on a track called Pengere(hiphop), not forgetting Millza from Dynamic Records on a trap song called 'King Pharoah' and Jamal on my latest song 'Dreamz'.
What's your ultimate goal?
My mission is to sound international and move to a global stage. I got my own style if you listen to any of my tracks its not hard to miss. I also write and record my music making use the 3 most common languages locally (Shona, English and Ndebele) so as to make everyone understand the vibe of the music. I can also ride on any instrumental, be it, dancehall ,hiphop, trap, gospel and even sungura.
Who would you like the chance to work with on the international arena?
My one wish would be to work with Wizkid(starboi). At one time I was close to realising that wish but unfortunately the deal fell through before we even had thr chance to work together, but soon I hope to change all that!
