Kwekwe's own Dj States has just dropped a brand new single and potential anthem titled 'Gwejah'.
Born Elmon Mawere, the artist has taken it upon himself to put his hometown on the musical map.
We caught up with him for a brief chat so that he could tell us more about his brand new release, his carrer and self, among other things.

WHAT DOES THE TRACK TALK ABOUT?
Its a dedication to all the people who work hard for their money, The word 'GweJah' in this song means the same as Hustler/Go Getta.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS SONG?
I was just inspired by how we get money in the hood , employment is hard to find and thus, we have to live on an money-making opportunity that life throws our way, we gotta capitalise every chance we get.

WHO PRODUCED THE SONG?
Dj States, of course!

IS IT JUST A SINGLE OR PART OF AN UPCOMING ALBUM?
Its Just a single for now. When an album is ready, the fans will obviously be the first ones to know.

WHAT ELSE ARE YOU WORKING ON IN THE STUDIO?
I'm working on a lot of videos and more hits, plus I also have a lot of projects that are ready but just waiting to be released.



TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU AND WHERE YOUR MUSICAL JOURNEY STARTED......
Born Elmon Mawere , stay in Kwekwe, Engineering Student at Kwekwe Polytechnic where I am doing Millwrights. I began doing music in 2004, though I started out doing Dance-hall , I slowly but eventually found my way to hip-hop, that's where my heart is.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE UPON A CAREER IN MUSIC AND WHAT DO YOU AIM TO ACHIEVE THROUGH IT?
I can not pin-point one single thing but its mostly my love for the music and how the music drives me that just inspired me to make my own stuff. My aim, like in everything that I do, is to achieve greatness.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PREVIOUS WORK THAT HAS MADE IT TO RADIO,  IF SO CAN YOU GIVE US A LIST?

My greatest inspiration is none other than the woman who gave birth to me, my mum!

HOW WOULD YOU BEST DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS A PERSON AND ARTIST?
As a person, I would like to think that I am a funny guy, God-fearing christian and a people person somewhat.
As an artist, I am a 'Strictly Business' kind of guy, I tend to take my work seriouslyseriously but also enjoy working with other talented artists.

WHAT ELSE ARE YOU INVOLVED IN?
I am also a Dj/Producer/Promoter.
