Unheralded dancehall artist Nigel Mapisaunga, otherwise known as Psautt is set to announce his arrival on the local music landscape with the release of a debut single titled HUPENYU MOTORO this October.
The Harare-based chanter said that he felt the time was just right for him to open this new chapter in his career seeing how dancehall has just about taken over every part of the country and continues to do so with each new day.
" This is quite an exciting time to be a dancehall musician because our genre is finally getting the due recognition and the respect that it deserves locally.
"I didn't want to lose out on an opportunity to also stand up and be counted among those taking dancehall to the people locally and beyond, that's why i decided to release HUPENYU MUTORO onto the market", said the 20 year old.
HUPENYU MUTORO is a socially 'conscious' song that centers on the reality of life and how we all have to prepare ourselves for the never ending trials and tribulations that come with it.
Psautt said he wrote the song to enlighten his peers on the harsh realities of life and also how to overcome them.
"I wrote the song when i was still going to school when my father used to lecture me about the importance of education and the need for me to work hard for whatever it is i wanted to attain in life.
" It is only through hard work that we can achieve and realise our dreams. Life will knock you down once in a while but that is no reason to quit", he said.
Though he acknowledges the fact that not everyone makes it in this industry and that he will have to give it all he has, Psautt feels that a lot can still be done by all the stakeholders in the industry to make sure good talent is not lost.
"Zimdancehall is quite an exciting genre of music but there are some who are abusing it by continuously sabotaging and frustrating upcoming artists.
" I think that we all deserve equal opportunity as far as the airplay, music shows and media coverage but at the end of the day, all that i can say is Zimdancehall to the world!!!", he said.
Psauttt said that he first picked up the microphone in 2014 and has been working hard eversince then to establish himself.
His progress was initially hampered by the lack of studio time due to the steep pricing and at at times the scarcity of proper recording studios in his area.
" I have come a long but still got so far to go, i call my style of dancehall 'retro' but its similar to Zimdancehall.
"I am different in my own way because while some artists focus on the negative, the violence and the drugs, i seek to inspire, to enlighten and encourage youths to stay away from vices like alcohol and drugs through my songs", said Psautt.
The dancehall artist said that he derived his stage name from his surname and that 'Psautt' meant 'peace out to the whole world'.
