The Street HipHop Tour, one of the fastest growing events on the local entertainment calendar makes a welcome return by 'public demand' and kicks off with another stop-over in Harare's suburb of Mabvuku on September 24th

.

The Street Hiphop Tour, the brainchild of Taona "iampreezo" Matsvai is a hiphop show that gives upcoming artists the platform to showcase their talent through performance.

Though relatively a platform for upcoming talent, the Street HipHop Tour has also played host to some of the local hip hop heavyweights
like Jnr Brown, Mc-Chita and GZE among others.

"The Street Hiphop Tour is returning to Mabvuku Choppies and it's back by public demand!
"Thus far we have had five very successful shows in and around the capital in places such as Chitungwiza, Highfield, Mfakose and Glen Norah among others and we are looking to do more and go even further in promoting local hiphop", said iampreezo as he is affectionately known by hip hop fans far and wide.

Asked about his sojourn into music promotion and where he intended
to take it, the founder of the Street Hiphop Tour said.......

"I'm hoping that in the next few years the street hiphop tour would have taken over every street and corner of Zimbabwe through our shows.
"It is my goal and that of my team for our own local upcoming talent to get due recognition" said the promoter.

In the brief period that the show has been running it has not only raked in
the crowds but has given local talent a platform from which to showcase their talents and also interact with the fans.

"Even though a lot still needs to be done, i am satisfied with the progress thus far because already more and more of our acts are being played on radio and are being called up for various shows and collabos with big artists.
"Our fanbase is also growing and we have witnessed crowds as big as 200/250 people coming through to our events", said iampreezo.

It is no secret that a lot of strides have been over the last couple of years and are still being made in an effort to bring local hip hop to the fore.

"Hip Hop is slowly but surely taking over and this is evidenced by the higher percentage in air play as compared to the previous years.
"hip hop now has its own radio and tv shows, there are more bloggers ,more club deejays and more promoters with a bias towards hip hop and are putting it on the map, not forgetting the surge in upcoming artists and the good music that's being put out there", said Matsvai.

So what is it that's been lacking all along and will help carry local hip hop
over the threshold ......?

"I believe all that's left is for the corporate world to step in and help partner and sponsor some of these artists and projects.
" We ourselves can only do so much with proceeds from our own pockets. What the industry needs for it to take the next step is the involvement of the corporate world", he said.

Iampreezo says that Hip Hop fans outside the capital can look forward to the Street Hiphop Tour stopping over in their cities and towns as well in the not-too-distant future as plans to tour Masvingo, Kwekwe, Gweru and Bulawayo were already in place.
