On the spotlight of our conversation on the growth and rise of Zimbabwean Hiphop is Mudiwa,a multi award winning christian hiphop artist who does not need an introduction,as an artist who has been influencial on both secular and christian hiphop he gave us his 5/5 on this ongoing conversation.
1) What motivates you when making music?
I am holy spirit inspired, music is a ministry to me. Seeing people doing well is my greatest motivation that is why i sing uplifting and only positive-confession songs.
2) Do you think your music has influenced Zimhiphop to some extent?
Well i would love to believe so, though i am more inclined to Christian music than secular. I played a part in making this genre popular i am sure about that.
3) Hiphop has evolved internationally over the years has that affected your music or Zimhiphop in any way?
Yes it has, it is now very competitive with the advent of expensive videos honestly one has to be so hard working to match the standards now.
So in order to fit in, we have all changed even our style and beats, we doing trap beats more than the normal hip hop beat.
4) Lets talk about the Rap/Hiphop class pre-2009 yourself,Maskiri,Exque,Stunner,Nasty trixx,Munetsi just to name a few,you guys were killing it how different was the Rap/Hiphop scene compared to now?
Now the music has lost meaning, hip hop lately has been dominated by hip hop acts who are singing songs that are only relevant for six months. Back then, our hip hop was motivational and inspirational. Listen to king pin songs and compare them with songs on radio now that they call hip hop...sad.
5) If you could take anything from that era, what would it be?
Determination, back then it was never about money but true passion for music. These days the only motivation is money in hip hop. Back in the day we invested in this culture, thats one thing i would borrow from back then...determination.
