Local rapper Tremma believes that the recently established Mob
Ent Music Store in the heart of the Central Business District is quite a good initiave
and necessary for the growth of the hiphop genre locally.
According to the rapper, it is not only a good markerting tool
but also a serious and more professional approach to the genre.
He said this while unvailing his latest offering to the public,
a mixtape titled 'Flying Colours'.
"MobEnt music store is quite a great initiative,
something that we have been lacking in our local music structure, it's a good
platform to help us market our music to the public", said Tremma, whose real
name is Takudzwa Matapi.
The 15-track debut solo project which was officially released
on the 18th of October, will be available and sold at the Mob Ent Music Store, an
establishment that was put together by Mob Ent(ertainment), fronted by two brothers
and fellow rappers in their own right, Carlos 'MobG' Mafika and his brother 'MobX'.
Tremma spoke highly of his latest offering whose first single
'Song Yemafaro' is already doing considerably well for the rapper and enjoying some
heavy rotation on local radio.
The Southerton based rapper said that making the album itself
was quite an experience on its own.
"Working on Flying Colors mix-tape has been an absolute
pleasure, quite an eye opener because I got the chance to mingle and work with
other artists who are doing good on the local scene and that long list of artists
includes the likes of Sister Flame, Gze, Savage, MobX, Zarzu, Avry and Warren H
among others.
"This project is a reflection of where I come from and
where I want to take my music career. I feel like I've been a 'novice' in the
Hiphop game forquite a while and finally I am getting and fully-embracing the opportunity
to tell my own story, said the 25 year old rapper.
Tremma, who describes himself as 'passion driven', a 'conscious
rapper' who narrates stories and paint pictures in the minds of his listeners has
done the majority of his work under the MobEnt stable where he said he had mastered
his style and writing 'antique' lyrics, albeit with 'Flying Colors'.
" The title relates to how I see myself as a writer, my
writing style is to try and paint pictures on every track with a unique concept
designed to capture what's going on around our world hence the cover artwork.
"I decided to go with the title "Flying
Colorz" because I feel like I've been a student of this music game for a
long minute and finally as a result of hard work and persistence I came out
with flying colors.
"It is a presentation of what I've managed to come up
with as a solo artist since the time that I started doing music professionally",
he said.
Asked to give us a brief into a couple of the tracks on the mixtape
that stood out the most for him and the ones that fans needed to look out for, the
rapper looked as though he might describe EACH AND EVERY ONE of the 15-tracks! It
goes to show just how confident he is about his own work. Here are a couple of those
tracks that he talked to us about.
"There is 'No One Like Me' (track number 2 on Flying
Colorz mixtape) clearly talks about how I see myself, a phenomenal writer and
passionate artist. It is important to be yourself and not try to be someone
else for it is refreshing and effortless. It talks about how I feel like no one
can do what I do in the way I do it.
"'Song Yemafaro' (track number 5) on the other hand is
a party banger which is currently doing well playing on Powerfm and Starfm, it
is a song which captures the weekend mood, party and night life.
" The other track that stood out for me is 'Todzimurana'
(track number 12 on the CD and features fellow rapper, Savage) a powerful track
which talks about Ubuntu, carries a strong message about how people have to
help each other pull through in different situations", said Tremma.
So as not to dissapoint his fans and keeping in line with international
standards, the rapper said that he had already
shot a couple of 'promotional videos' and that plans were underway to recórd more visuals.
"I already shot small videos for the mixtape intro and
the 50shades of Tremma freestyle which are part of the mixtape for promotional
purposes with Sosa TV. For commercial purposes I'm planning on shooting a video
for one of the tracks on the mixtape by end of this year", said Tremma
Earlier on in his career, Tremma was the official host for an
open mic show called Friday Nite Live that used to take place at the Southerton
shops every Friday, a gig that he believes, gave him experience and a better footing.
