Zambian hiphop artist, Pablo Crack is putting the final touches
to his eagerly anticipated 'official' debut mixtape titled 'Crack Season'.
Comprising of 7 original tracks, the mixtape is slated for release
on November 25th.
" I have been putting the songs together for quite a
while now and I am happy that the fans will finally be able to feast their eyes
and ears on what I have been cooking in the studio, all this while.
"As an official debut i chose the title to simply mean,
'a season of good music', this comes in prior to a follow-up LP(yet to be
titled) that we are already working on and plan to release onto the market soon",
said Pablo Crack.
That being said and done, we asked the hiphop artist, which of
his tracks can fans across Africa look forward to?
"There is a couple of tracks that standout for me and these
include, 'Give Me a Mic', a song about me asking for a mic so i can address a
few things on my mind. The others include 'Connected', which is basically a
narrative about how two young people find themselves in a crime they hadn't
planned and 'Believe', an inspirational song about holding on to an idea or
dream even when you are down on your luck", he said.
The rest of the Crack Season mixtape is made up of tracks like
Complex, Words, Got Next and Touch The Sky.
Having done quite a number of cover versions and put out a few
songs that were not 'radio friendly', the artist said that it was time to turn over
a new leaf and he believes that Crack Season will be the project to do that with.
" The aim was for it to completely have original music
unlike the earlier where I only ever did cover versions and freestyles. So i
worked with various local producers and also a couple of others from South
africa and from Nigeria.
"As most of my previous efforts had no clean version and
had not been radio friendly, this time i decided to deviate from that. The
crack season is clean and will definitely have a few singles debuting firstly
through radio", he said.
The Zambian emcee's previous work includes 9-track EPs titled
Thug Induction Volume 1 (2012) and volume 2 in (2014)
Pablo said that although he had wanted to have a considerable
amount of features/guest appearances, he eventually decided on going it alone.
"Initially, the target was to have two really talented
people on separate records. Though i chose to release those as surprise singles
after Ep is out. As i have themed this Ep to be a solo project with no features",
he said
We also asked the rapper what the state of the Zambian hiphop
scene was like and this is what he had to say;
"I think that Zambian music as in any other southern
African country is growing. With the rise of many websites and media groups,
African music is growing and bridging boarders literary", he said.
On a parting note Pablo sought to affirm that he was a work in
progress and that the best is yet to come.
"Well i feel the best still yet to come though just
being able to tell my story and getting to work with people who's music I have
grown up on has been a blessing.
" Pablo Crack firstly is a big fan of any type of music
and i believe good music is good music, the vibe on any song whether the artist
is big or small speaks for itself depending on its relevance. To hear pablo is
to know pablo!"
