Urban Craft Magazine spoke to upcoming musician, Tanaka Choto
who is better known to his peers by the name 'Yellow Dice'. The 18 year old from
the dormitory town of Chitungwiza talked to us about his debut mix-tape which is
set to hit the streets this November. Here is more from that brief chat;
What is the name of your project and what is
it about?
It is a mix-tape called "THE BACK CHINES" meaning
the impossible is to come possible
But at the the of a day its all about the art.
When is it going to be released and how many
tracks are on it?
It is going to be released on the 10th of November and it carries
6 tracks plus a couple of bonus tracks we added to make the whole listening experience
for the fans worthwhile.
Who produced it?
On the mix-tape i worked with quite a number of producers, among
them, the Mic Burners , New Rules Ent, Dj Switch (theUntittled707) and Masicka
Music, just to mention a few.
What are some of the themes/topics that you
explore throughout the mix-tape?
I explored quite a number of themes on this mix-tape, i could
pick a few of them like joy, pain and hope. The main one running through the whole mix-tape being 'perseverance' because we can all use a little bit of that in our
lives if we are to overcome the obstacles that life throws at us on a daily basis.
You gotta have the spine/chime to carry on.
What are some of the titles to the songs on
your mix-tape
There is 'kubhaiza Malooks', 'Skiri Remugheto', 'ScarFace', '2
Madhora', and 'Pizza', these are some of the songs that the fans can look forward
to hearing on this mix-tape.
Who are some of the artists that you worked with
on this mix-tape?
I featured kay_ef(theSpecialGuest), C flow and there is also
a collaboration that I did with jnr spragga so it a fusion of hip-hop and dance-hall
When can we expect your debut album
Right now my main focus is the mix-tape and releasing a number
of singles as well for this year. My debut album will definitely be dropping early
2017 though, so lookout for that.
What is the story behind your stage name
My stage name is YelowDice ,so the story is that, since I
was kid people from my hood used to refer to me as 'yellow' because of my fair completion.
The nickname has stuck with me since then.
When the music thing came and it was time for me to choose a
stage name, I just decided to embrace the name 'yellow' but added 'Dice' to it so
as to make it my own.
