One on one with John Cole multi award winning Zimbabwean choreographer behind the amazing dances from Tytan and Ammara Mukoko, Cynthia Mare Ngoro , Sabastian Magacha 1+1
What inspired you into choreography
Choreography is about curiousity and creativity with music and alternatively am one individual that enjoys making things come to life and this is how my world of choreography started its journey into what it is today
Dance is growing in Zimbabwe with leaps and bounds which is very good. It took a selected few to make it happen that's one thing for sure.
How do you stay relevant as a choreographer
There is no formula to staying relevant just simple focus , drive and goals. I always like to do things others don't do rather unorthodox which creates the uniqueness and makes it easy to be on the top of the food chain but mainly just keep hustling until you don't have to introduce yourself.
There are young people out there who are looking for platforms to showcase their dance moves and skills where do they start
I would say start off by joining and participating in your community projects and scenes and embark on making, creating relationships then work with c and dancers that are established however always be honest, committed as it is a hard road. Be humble.
What are your plans for the future
Well let's just say the whole world will be seeing me everywhere so watch out and support local talent
