The Zimbabwe Hiphop Awards (ZHHA) have come and gone, for the
winners it was a fine way to cap off a good year and for the losers, well, a sign
that they needed to work harder.
The dust has finally settled after all the hullabaloo in the
weeks leading up to the event. Everything can now go back to 'normal', at least
until the next instalment of the awards ceremony, so it seems.
Winner in the Best Promoter category, Taona 'Iampreezo' Matswai
said that despite allowing himself a brief moment or two to wallow in the joy of
winning this award and all the honour it brought with it, he was not going to rest
on his laurels......at least not anytime soon, for, there is a lot of work that
still needs to be done!
"Winning this award was a key achievement in my career and
one that I will treasure for years and years to come, however there remains a lot
of work to be done so I will not get lost in the moment!
" Being recognized as the best hiphop promoter is quite
the honour but it also means that I now have to live up to that title and prove
to everyone that I deserve it", said iampreezo, as he is affectionately known
to his multitude of followers.
The promoter/event coordinator and artist agent for the likes
of GZE, Brian G and hiphop guru, Jnr Brown is of course known for the remarkable
work he has done with the Street Hiphop Tour, a monthly event/initiative meant to
promote the local genre.
The event itself recently celebrated its first anniversary and
winning this award surely goes a long way in proving to the Harare, Highfields-based
promoter that his efforts are not only being noticed but making a difference as
well.
" There is nothing that means more to a human being than
the knowledge that your works are noticed and that your effort is not in vain.
" My primary goal, as it has been from day one, is for the
hiphop genre to grow and get due recognition locally", he said.
Iampreezo said that he owed his recent success to hard work and
his strong faith in the Lord and that looking ahead, his plans were to put in more
hours into making all his dreams a reality.
"I believe that hardwork pays off and so does prayer so
this coming year I dont intend on letting up in any of those two departments.
" I want to take hiphop to greater heights and I am not
willing to give up on it, not until my last breath! All the hiphop fans out there
will be happy to know that we got a lot instore in the coming weeks.. so watch this
space", he said.
So driven is Matswai that he even coined his own motto!
"My new motto is 'I hustle with a strategy that can't
be taught' because I do believe that it all comes from the Lord and it is something
you are either born with or not", he said.
The next edition of the Street Hiphop Tour takes place on the
31st of December at Athlone Shopping Center in Harare.
